In the Swamps of Sadness v.1

The other day, I had been watching the Neverending Story 2, and I recalled how as a girl, I hated the movie on principle, because it didn't have the same actor playing Atreyu (ah, the original Atreyu was one of my very first fangirlish obsessions), although I also disliked the second movie because both Bastian and the bird annoyed the hell out of me.

Well, all this thinking about Atreyu, made me realize how deeply cemented he is in my consciousness of what it means to be a "hero." I'll always remember him, persevering in the swamps of sadness, refusing to give in and sink into the sadness and grief all around him.

So, that's the long preamble of why I decided to fire off this quick sketch of Atreyu. (it was done in photoshop)
But while in the process of doing the gesture drawing for this sketch, another drawing was spawned.
